Herniated Disc Causes
A herniated disc is usually the result of gradual, age-related wear and tear called disc degeneration. As you get older, your spinal discs lose some of their water content which makes them less flexible and more prone to rupturing. Most people can’t pinpoint the exact cause of a herniated disc. Sometimes, using your back muscles to lift a heavy object can lead to a herniated disc, as can twisting and turning while lifting something heavy. Very rarely does a traumatic event, such as a fall or blow, lead to a herniated disc.
Although medications can reduce pain caused by a herniated disc, this is not an effective treatment method and should not be used long-term. Extensive research has shown that non-invasive chiropractic adjustment is the most effective and cost-effective treatment for acute lower back pain. Additionally, researchers concluded that chiropractors have more thorough training in spinal mechanics and spinal therapy than any other health professional. When it comes to effective treatment, chiropractic outperforms conventional care in most patients.
